Our first trip over will include one of the world’s longest flights, Singapore Airlines Flight 33 from San Francisco to Singapore, an 8,343 mile or 13,573 kilometer flight that is scheduled for 17 hours 30 minutes.
We are flying in January and planning for the possibility of inclement weather in Chicago, so we will fly from Chicago to San Francisco the day before our flight over the Pacific just in case there are any weather delays. That first leg will be on Alaska Airlines. We chose Alaska after fairly extensive research into all the airline alliances and frequent flier programs. What I call “fairly extensive research” is what Ryan would call another one of my engineer brain rabbit holes, but I digress. Alaska’s Mileage Plan is consistently rated as the most valuable and has the unique benefit to us of including not only the Oneworld alliance partners but also partnerships with Singapore Airlines (part of Star Alliance) and Korean Airlines (part of SkyTeam Alliance). We will be able to fly on 5 of the Skytrax World’s Top 10 Airlines of 2023!
